Athlone boasts two 18 hole championship golf courses on either side of Lough Ree. Lough Ree Lodge is located just 2km from Athlone Golf links and Glasson golf club is just a short drive to the far side of the lake.

Athlone town is a bustling little town with historic links to the past, including the historic castle, the churches. It's a ideal base for touring and traveling to the west, south west and the North. The town is an ideal location for stopping on the Shannon and enjoying the many restaurants and pubs that the town has to offer.

Kiltoom stables are conveniently located just across the road from Lough Ree Lodge and pony trekking is available to all.

There are various country walks and cycles in the locality, the house is located on a "green heartlands cycle route".

A short drive from the house is the famous Clonmacnoise, an ancient monastery and burial site with it's famous round tower.

Boats and cruisers are available to hire in the locality or for a relaxing day on the lake there are boats touring the lake all through the summer months. For fishing Lough Ree is about as good as it gets.
